A 22-year-old Sioux Falls woman was arrested on a Lyon County warrant after Iowa investigators alleged that she used money taken in a June robbery to gamble at Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort near Larchwood.
Paige Marie Meyer was taken into custody Oct. 12 on a charge of money laundering by conducting a transaction, a Class C felony. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office arrest log lists a $10,000 cash-or-surety bond and notes that criminal charges are accusations and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The case arose from the Sioux Falls Police Department’s investigation into a June 16 robbery at 777 Casino in Sioux Falls. Meyer was identified as an accomplice to a man suspected in that robbery, according to local reports based on the investigation.
Investigators placed Meyer and the man at Grand Falls between 2:39 a.m. and 6:08 a.m., immediately after the robbery. They alleged that cash from the robbery was put through slot machines in an effort to conceal or disguise its source.
The pair played about $4,000 in slots, according to Sioux County Radio. More detailed figures reported by N’West Iowa put the man’s slot-machine buy-in at about $3,425, with about $1,409 cashed out; Meyer allegedly put in $630 and cashed out about $364.
A warrant for Meyer’s arrest was issued Aug. 20. A conviction on the Iowa charge could bring a prison sentence of up to 10 years. She was being held in the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids when the reports were published.
Meyer’s preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 23 in Lyon County Court.
