Gamecheck has launched a ten-part weekly exposé series on fake online casinos in Brazil after identifying 5,000 such sites in the first half of 2026. It will publish 50 domains every Monday and use its free search tool, app and Chrome extension to help players verify sites as it goes.
According to iGaming Future, the series opens with the report 'Gamecheck identifies 5000 fake online casinos in Brazil’. Gamecheck said it has detected more than 8,000 fake games worldwide since it began operating, including over 6,800 in Brazil, and that it found 3,800 fake online casinos in a single month there.
The company said Brazil accounts for the largest share of fake games it has detected in any market it monitors. James Elliott, its founder, said Brazil had become one of the fastest-growing online casino markets in the world and that rogue operators had moved quickly to take advantage of it.
Fred Azevedo, Gamecheck’s LATAM brand ambassador, said player protection has to begin with authenticity. Before RTP, volatility or responsible gambling, he said, players deserve to know the game they are playing is real.
Gamecheck says each site in the series is assessed through its standard process of testing a sample of games, gathering evidence and asking original providers to confirm whether the games are real. Where fake games are found, the site is added to Gamecheck’s database and placed under ongoing monitoring, while legitimate operators can use the domain-linked, QR-authenticated Gamecheck SEAL, logged on the blockchain, to show their games have been checked.
The Brazil project sits against a fast-expanding regulated market. The market opened at the start of 2025 and generated around $7 billion in gross gaming revenue last year, according to Brazil’s Secretariat of Prizes and Bets, while revenue is forecast to approach $10 billion by 2029. The article said Brazil became the world’s fifth-largest betting market within a year of launch, authorised platforms generated about $290 million in tax revenue in January 2026 and the sector created an estimated 15,000 high-income jobs. Gamecheck said the rapid growth, driven by wider smartphone and internet access, has created conditions in which more players search for new sites and rogue operators can pass fake games off as real.
Brazil’s own response to illegal betting has tightened as well. According to iGamingBusiness, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed a decree on Friday to combat illegal betting and strengthen the regulated market. Data released by the justice minister put the number of Brazilians betting on illegal websites at 25.2 million, while research by the Locomotiva Institute with LCA estimated the illegal market moves about BRL 40 billion a year and costs public coffers BRL 10.8 billion. The measures included Decree No 13,033/2026 and Ordinance No 1,766/2026, which govern blocking funds from illegal betting operations and joint liability of financial institutions, payment companies and advertisers for tax collection.
iGaming Brazil reported that Anatel has taken down more than 18,000 illegal betting sites since October 2024, about 15,000 in the first six months of the regulated market. The same report said the process starts with the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets identifying irregular pages and sending domain and app lists to Anatel, which then tells fixed and mobile broadband operators to block access, and that 78 companies currently have official authorization to operate.
Gamecheck said the Brazil series is part of a wider programme of regional exposé work across other markets identified as high-risk for fake online casino gaming. It is working with Fred Azevedo and the Brazilian streamer Marcos Junior, known as O Markola, to extend the findings to players.
