Uganda’s National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board has held discussions with the Uganda Media Centre on how to raise public awareness of gaming regulation and responsible gambling. The talks focused on improving public understanding of the rules, safer participation in the sector and clearer communication about the risks tied to gambling.

AfriGaming Bulletin reported that the engagement centred on collaboration between the two institutions to widen the reach of information on gaming regulation and responsible gambling. Uganda Media Centre Executive Director Alan Kasujja welcomed the partnership and said the bodies were open to collaboration and ready to support the initiatives.

As covered in July, the board launched a five-year strategic plan that put responsible gaming and tighter oversight at the centre of its work. The regulator has also been intensifying enforcement through public-awareness campaigns, gaming-advertising controls and action against illegal online gambling.

In its latest enforcement steps, the board said it targeted illegal gaming advertisements on billboards in Gayaza, Kyanja, Najjera and along the Nalya-Ntinda Bypass under the Gaming (Advertisement) Directives. It has also urged telecom operators and internet service providers to do more to curb illegal online gambling, arguing that the shift to digital play has expanded the front line of enforcement from physical premises to online infrastructure.

The board and the media centre framed clearer communication as part of a safer and more responsible gaming environment.
