Jamaica’s First Casino Targets February 2027 Opening

Adamas Grand must complete surveillance, anti-money-laundering and player-protection conditions before it can begin operations in Hanover.
Jamaica’s First Casino Targets February 2027 Opening
Key points
  • Princess Hotels and Resorts Jamaica has set February 2027 as the opening target for the casino at Princess Grand Jamaica in Hanover.
  • Adamas Grand Casino Limited holds the country’s first casino operator’s licence and will operate the venue with Grupo Orenes.
  • The conditional licence remains subject to regulatory requirements, with a March 31, 2027, deadline to commence operations.
  • The casino will admit Jamaicans and tourists, offering slot machines, live table games and non-gaming entertainment.

Jamaica’s first casino is scheduled to open in February 2027 at the Princess Grand Jamaica resort in Green Island, Hanover, marking the planned launch of regulated full-casino gaming in the country. Princess Hotels and Resorts Jamaica confirmed the timetable on Oct. 14 during World Travel Week 2026.

Adamas Grand Casino Limited, which received Jamaica’s first casino gaming operator’s licence on July 29, will run the venue under a management agreement with Grupo Orenes, the Spanish gaming and hospitality company. The casino will be open to Jamaicans as well as tourists, and the new casino entity has created approximately 100 additional jobs.

As we reported in September, Adamas Grand’s conditional licence does not permit operations until it has met the Casino Gaming Commission’s remaining requirements. The operator had been given until March 31, 2027, to begin operations, making the February target contingent on completing the outstanding regulatory work.

Those conditions cover approved surveillance and security systems, responsible-gaming safeguards, anti-money-laundering measures, player-protection protocols and connection to the commission’s Gaming Management Information System. The commission’s wider safeguards include know-your-customer checks, scrutiny of suspicious transactions and sources of wealth, as well as direct regulatory access to casino operations.

The planned casino, designed by Manuel Clavel, will offer slot machines and live games including blackjack, craps, roulette and poker. Its non-gaming facilities are to include a sports bar, premium dining with live performances and a nightclub.

The project is part of Princess Hotels and Resorts’ investment of about US$400 million in Hanover, encompassing Princess Grand Jamaica and Princess Senses The Mangrove. Jamaica’s Casino Gaming Act, passed in 2010, created the framework for casino operations within approved integrated resorts rather than stand-alone gambling businesses.

The House of Representatives approved the Casino Gaming (General) Regulations, 2025, to operationalise that framework. The regulations set standards for licensing, record-keeping, reporting, fees, inspections and enforcement, while the government has said the model is intended to diversify the tourism product without turning Jamaica into a casino-gambling destination.
