Britain’s Gambling Commission has suspended the remote operating licence held by Targetlocal Ltd, the company trading as Ken Howell’s Sports Betting, after its enquiries identified anti-money-laundering failings. The immediate action, announced Sept. 21, stops the operator from accepting online bets through kenhowells.com while the regulator conducts a licence review.
The suspension covers Targetlocal’s combined remote licence for casino, sports betting and virtual-event betting. It is being reviewed under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005 and will remain in force until the commission is satisfied that the business complies with its requirements.
Customers can still access their accounts and withdraw funds during the suspension. The commission said Targetlocal is expected to treat consumers fairly and keep them fully informed about developments affecting them; the company can also be contacted through its website.
The action does not affect Targetlocal’s non-remote general betting standard licence, which covers land-based activity. A remote licence is required for gambling offered online or by other remote means, while non-remote licences cover physical venues including betting shops.
As we reported in August, the commission separately suspended BresBet’s licence over suspected failings. The regulator has a duty to ensure gambling businesses have adequate controls against money laundering and terrorist financing, and published a 2026 money-laundering risk assessment on July 30.
