FanDuel has unveiled a new partnership with GamBan, a tech company which provides software to block Gambling sites. It is the latest part of FanDuel’s commitment to responsible gaming methods.

The initiative will see the operator offer GamBan’s software for free, to customers who self-exclude from its gaming sites or identify as problem gamblers.

Pending approval from regulators, FanDuel will provide a free subscription to GamBan, which enables users to block, not only sites in the FanDuel Group but all sites that offer real money gaming.

That means poker rooms, casinos, or sportsbooks—regulated or offshore. It also works for social gaming and esports sites All in all, GamBan can block thousands of gambling sites, on up to 15 devices.

A Big Step Towards a More Responsible Industry Model

GamBan’s founder Jack Symons, applauded the move saying, “This is a massive moment for the industry and one we’ve been pushing to achieve since the launch of Gamban.”

FanDuel is the first major gaming provider in the US to offer free blocking software for self-excluding players, and continues to lead the way in responsible gambling measures. It recently scored another first when it made a “multi-million dollar commitment” to the America Gaming Association’s Have a Game Plan campaign.

Symonds was bullish about FanDuel’s efforts: “As the largest real money gaming provider in the United States, FanDuel Group is making a statement of intent and throwing down the gauntlet to operators across the industry to offer self-exclusion support for their vulnerable customers.”

FanDuel’s Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, Carolyn Renzin stated that, “Educating customers about the importance of gambling responsibly and within limits is a business imperative and ethically the right thing to do.”

Indeed, FanDuel customers already have a range of responsible gambling tools available, allowing them to set limits on deposits, wagers, and time spent on the site. In the most serious cases, players can also self-exclude.

When a customer self-excludes from one FanDuel site, they are immediately locked out of all of them —including casino, sportsbook, racing, and fantasy sports products—to help protect those that may be struggling to control their gambling.

Collaboration an Essential Part of GamBan’s Ethos

GamBan started back in 2015 and has been growing steadily ever since. It describes its product as “ the smartest and most effective software for blocking gambling sites and applications ”. It prides itself on making the software “as simple and straightforward to install as possible.”

In 2018, independent research commissioned by the charity GambleAware, identified Gamban as the most effective blocking software on the market. The same year, Gamban won the Software Rising Star Award and in 2019, it was named RegTech Provider of the Year at The GamblingCompliance Global Regulatory Awards.

GamBan’s website states that it is “not intended to be a standalone solution and the team continue to work extensively to connect schemes, tools and initiatives, ensuring that recovery from problem gambling is both possible and achievable.” To that end, it has recently partnered with GamCare and GamStop in the UK to provide the TalkBanStop service.

FanDuel’s parent company, Flutter Entertainment plc, also has partnerships with GamBan in Europe and is rolling out its North America affiliation with the company to include PokerStars, Betfair, Stardust, FOXBet, TVG, and Stars Casino, allowing players utilize GamBan through those sites too.
